Jonathan Bousfield is a Zagreb-based English writer specialising in culture, travel and history. A former rock critic and long-term guidebook writer, he has been the author of the Rough Guide to Croatia ever since the publication of its first edition in 2000. He has also written on the history and culture of Croatia, former Yugoslavia and Central-Eastern Europe for a wide range of publications including Time Out Croatia, Calvert Journal, Jutarnji list and New Eastern Europe. He has authored guidebooks (for both The Rough Guides and Dorling Kindersley) to Austria, the Baltic States, Bulgaria, Poland and Slovenia. As well as translating essays and fiction from Croatian into English, he is the co-author (with Croatian illustrator Igor Hofbauer) of a graphic novella set in the dystopian fictional holiday resort of Crimson Quays (published in Croatian as Grimizna Laguna).
